Confined space entry checklist

A confined space entry checklist confirms the controls are in place before anyone enters a pit, tank, sewer, or similar space. Confined space work is high risk construction work needing a SWMS, and entry also requires a permit. Never enter on a hunch: the atmosphere can kill without warning.

Common questions

Do I need a permit and a SWMS for confined space work?

Yes, both. The SWMS sets out the method and controls; the entry permit authorises the specific entry. They work together.

Can I enter a confined space to rescue someone?

Never without training, equipment, and a plan. Most confined space deaths include would-be rescuers who became the second casualty. That is why a trained standby person and a rescue plan are mandatory.

Confined space work needs a SWMS. See our confined space SWMS guide.

A checklist confirms controls are in place; a SWMS is the document the law requires before high risk construction work starts. Generate a site-specific one for your trade.
